10 Must See SDCC Trailers

Post-SDCC blues? Here are 10 trailers that aired at SDCC to get you excited again!

San Diego Comic Con was, as always, full of exclusive trailers, news and cosplay. Being in the UK, it was fairly difficult to keep up with (time differences, gah), I did manage to catch the amazing announcement that Brie Larson is to play Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) in the MCU live which was fantastic, especially seeing the live reactions on Twitter. As mentioned before, a key feature in every SDCC is the trailers, footage, teasers and so forth. Accompanied by the cast members, these trailers debuted in, mostly, Hall H.

1. Wonder Woman - Starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Connie Nielsen. Dir - Patty Jenkins

Absolutely. Amazing. Gal Gadot is brilliant as the eponymous character. The mythology of the Amazonians against the fierce action, drama and badassery of Wonder Woman herself on the WW1 battlefield is awe-inspiring. Patty Jenkins' direction is fascinating. Bring on Wonder Woman, out July 2017.

2. Suicide Squad (Final Trailer) - Starring Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and Will Smith. Dir - David Ayer

Have I ever mentioned how excited I am for Suicide Squad? Ever? Anyone that knows me knows that I'm too obsessed with this film, and this SDCC trailer perfectly sums up why. You may want to give this trailer a miss, though, as the film is only a week or so away. I love the editing in this trailer, sound/visual synchronisation is a thrill, at least for me anyway. But seriously, this looks fantastic. And... Flash?

3. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - Starring Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston and Colin Farrell. Dir - David Yates

The magical world of J.K Rowling is back, this time set many years before Harry Potter and in America. We finally get a solid look at some of those beasts, and they look great! This generally looks like a fun, nostalgic and truly magical film, and I for one cannot wait to see the Wizarding World expand.

4. Kong: Skull Island - Starring Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson. Dir - Jordan Vogt-Roberts

Loki, Captain Marvel, Nick Fury and Fred Flinstone fighting a giant ape, yet it still looks good. The action, the actors, the effects, everything! The sheer size of Kong along is a huge talking point. I really do hope this does well, if not so we can finally get that Godzilla/King Kong movie set for 2020.

5. Doctor Strange - Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, and Tilda Swinton. Dir - Scott Derrickson

All this Inception-style footage is giving me motion sickness, but it still looks mind numbingly brilliant. Despite an unfortunate white-washing (Tilda Swinton's attempt at justifying it not resonating with me at all), the diversity (other than aforementioned) looks good and progressive, especially for Marvel Studios. Honestly, my excitement for the MCU film wasn't very high until I saw this trailer (after recovering from motion sickness of course). It looks amazing, and visually mind-blowing.

6. The Defenders - Starring Krysten Ritter, Charlie Cox, and Mike Colter.

We learn absolutely nothing from this teaser, but it still manages to outweigh other trailers full of plot and actual footage. The typical Netflix-noir feel we've had so far definitely exists in this teaser for The Defenders, a team-up of all of Netflix's MCU heroes; Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, perhaps accompanied by Punisher, Trish Walker (as Hellcat) and Misty Knight later on.

7. Sherlock (Series 4) - Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington.

It's back, it's finally back! Sherlock, John, Mary, Mycroft and co are returning after a milkwarm Abominable Bride for a full series (by full series I of course mean 3 episodes) of Sherlockian goodness. Toby Jones looks intruguing as the villain, to say the least. But, it seems Abbington's Mary Watson is going to get deep into the action after S3's revelations.

8. Luke Cage - Starring Mike Colter, Alfre Woodard, and Mahershala Ali.

Luke Cage wasn't on my radar before the SDCC teaser, but now it definitely is. Cage's attitude in the teaser alone speaks on how good this series can be, and those fight scenes are effortless for Colter (as they should be). Give me more of that soundtrack, more of that cinematography and more Luke Cage.

9. Legion - Starring Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza and Rachel Keller.

Gosh darn it, this looks interesting. Marvel and Fox have teamed up for Legion, one of the most powerful mutants to exist. It looks dramatic, most definitely so, but it also looks funny (dance scene and Aubrey Plaza?!?) and genuinely entertaining. This could be the start of something huge.

10. Justice League - Starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller. Dir - Zack Snyder

Following on from the controversial BvS, next weeks Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman next year, the DCEU is finally bringing us the Justice League, and boy does it look like they've learnt from their BVS mistakes. Funny, a bit more colourful and a whole lot more unique. Justice League looks to bring the most iconic heroes of all time together successfully if the SDCC footage is anything to go by. Ezra Miller and Ben Affleck stand out tremendously as The Flash and Batman, respectively. Finally, the DCEU are redeeming themselves.
